These are the FM-1's real engine, envelope, modulation, arpeggiator and insert controls. Values are read from the connected firmware. Retired controls are omitted.

02 Grow a phrase

SMALL GESTURES / NEW MELODIES

Keeps the rhythm of an existing phrase, fits notes to your scale, then locks EVOLVE. NEW also seeds an empty phrase. Playback stops for a verified transfer; press PLAY on your FM-1 afterwards. Drum and slice tracks are excluded.

03 Let it evolve

ON THE INSTRUMENT

EVOLVE runs in the FM-1 while its sequencer plays. AMOUNT is the chance of one transformation at the chosen loop interval. LOCK holds the current phrase. Read again after hardware edits or evolution.

04 The notes

Select a step to edit. Filled cells hold notes; a line is a tie. Dim cells are outside the sequence length.

First connection & honest limits
  1. Run Bunker Evolved 1.0 on your FM-1 (the tested build still says BE 1.0-RC2). Connect a data-capable USB cable, close other MIDI editors and the installer, and turn off recording.
  2. In desktop Chrome, choose Find FM-1, allow MIDI/SysEx, select its input and output, then Connect & read. The editor reads your device before enabling writes.
  3. Change a sound or parameter. Use Read from FM-1 after turning hardware knobs. For a motif or GROW edit, leave the physical controls alone during transfer; press PLAY afterwards.
  4. Keep a phrase with Export, and save a complete project on the device. A failed transfer stops the connection: export the pre-edit phrase, reconnect, read, then import it if needed.

The editor uses the existing Felucca protocol and does not flash firmware. Its first release has host tests against the actual C command handler; physical USB acceptance is still pending. Offline sketches are separate from your device. Connect reads the device and replaces the sketch; export a sketch before connecting.

The modular core and MIDI adapter are included in the source package. iOS/iPadOS, macOS native apps and AU/VST wrappers are future work, not included products. Architecture & roadmap →
